Wings & Chips with a Zesty Township Twist
When township taste meets air-fryer convenience, you get this sizzling breakfast plate that’s proudly Mzansi. Featuring bold Amapelepele spices and a rainbow salad that now includes the iconic feta cheese, this dish is easy on the prep but rich in flavour and flair.

Ingredients
For the Wings:
- 500g chicken wings
- 1 tbsp crushed garlic
- 1½ tbsp Amapelepele Grill Zonke spice
- Cooking spray or oil (for air fryer)
For the Chips (Fries):
- 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into strips
- 1 tbsp Amapelepele Chip Spice
- Light drizzle of oil
For the Green Salad:
- ½ red pepper, sliced
- ½ green pepper, sliced
- ½ yellow pepper, sliced
- ¼ red onion, thinly sliced
- Handful of baby tomatoes
- Lettuce leaves (washed and torn)
- A few olives (black or green)
- ¼ cup feta cheese, crumbled
- Creamy salad dressing of your choice
Method
Step 1: Prep Your Wings
- Coat the chicken wings in crushed garlic and Amapelepele Grill Zonke spice.
- Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.
- Spray lightly with oil and air-fry for 20–25 minutes, turning halfway for even crisping.
Step 2: Make the Chips
- Season potato strips with oil and Amapelepele Chip Spice.
- Air-fry at 200°C for 18–20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway for perfect texture.
Step 3: Toss the Salad
- In a bowl, mix peppers, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, and crumbled feta.
- Drizzle with creamy dressing and toss gently to coat.
- Let the salad sit for 5 minutes so the flavours can deepen.
Pro Tip
Serve everything hot, with a splash of lemon on the wings and an extra grind of black pepper over the salad. Add some amapiano tunes and you’ve got the full sensory experience!
