SAPS Ad Hoc Committee to question Ramaphosa in writing.

Parliament’s SAPS Ad Hoc Committee has until Thursday to submit written questions to President Cyril Ramaphosa. The committee unanimously decided he will not testify orally but respond in writing, focusing on the formation and mandate of the now‑disbanded Political Killings Task Team. Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane explained that since Ramaphosa appointed both the task team and its chairperson, members agreed he should provide answers in writing rather than appear before them.

Founder Jacinta Ngobese‑Zuma wants President Ramaphosa to deploy the army to assist police in removing illegal foreigners, arguing the influx amounts to an “invasion.” The call follows incidents in Kagiso where residents fled intimidation by illegal miners, with the movement insisting stronger measures are needed as police struggle to contain the situation.

Relief efforts include soup kitchens, temporary shelters, and support from Home Affairs for lost documents. Disaster teams are assessing damage after incidents such as a lightning fatality in Mzimkhulu, hail damage in Harry Gwala, and blocked roads from rockfalls. Authorities stress safety, urging parents to keep children away from water and residents to avoid crossing low‑lying bridges, as drowning incidents rise. The priority remains restoring dignity and providing coordinated assistance to affected communities.
