Fifth Contingent of SANDF Troops Returns from DRC Mission

A fresh wave of applause and appreciation marked the arrival of 258 members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) at Bram Fischer International Airport on Friday morning. The group represents the fifth contingent returning from deployment under Operation Thiba in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The soldiers were welcomed by senior SANDF officials and support teams as they disembarked, concluding their service as part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC). The operation, aimed at bolstering peace and stability in the region, has been a cornerstone of South Africa’s ongoing commitment to continental security collaboration.

The SANDF commended the members for their unwavering dedication and professionalism during their tour. Their return comes amid a phased redeployment strategy, with additional groups expected to arrive home in the coming days.
